Featuring a memorial stone marked 1680, this is thought to be the town's oldest pub. Formerly owned by Edward Roberts & Son of Farnley Tyas and then Bentley's Yorkshire Breweries, it was a free house from 1984 for 20 years, then bought by Tadcaster Pub Company. Rear bar has many sporting team pictures and memorabilia while the homely L-shaped lounge featuring open fires provides a cosy atmosphere. May close early if quiet. No credit cards.
