Campaign for Real Ale

When does the local branch meet?
During the current Coronavirus crisis and following official advice, physical meetings and socials may take place, however we should be mindful of the risks and be prepared to take extra care to avoid the possible spread of infection.

Under normal circumstances, we meet monthly for an open branch meeting where we discuss current matters and decide such things as which pubs to nominate for the Good Beer Guide, which to award a Pub of the Season and/or Pub of the Year certificate to, all done democratically and as fairly as we can.
Other topics include beer festivals, pub preservation and local pub news, which is the main source of content for the news pages of our quarterly branch magazine, Real Ale Talk.

All 8pm unless otherwise stated:-

  • Monthly branch meeting Wednesday 13 October 2021 20:00 Flowerpot

October branch meeting, to be confirmed. Getting back to our normal meetings; let us know if there are any particular points that you wish to raise.

  • Social, Hartshead Moor Thursday 28 October 2021 20:00 Stafford Arms

Starting by 8pm at the Stafford Arms which now has a new lease of life and 6 handpulls, then to the New Pack Horse, a pub which has built a reputation for providing a range of good quality real ales of varied styles. We will follow this with a visit to the Brewhouse, a lovely venue with a great range of well-kept ales from Mill Valley and others. Each venue is a 700yd walk from the next. Buses are pretty poor but the 254 and 254A pass by at least 2 of the three. Best use a journey planner to see what is possible, e.g. 1820 or 1835 268 Dewsbury to Cleckheaton then 1911 254A to Halifax Road; then return via hourly 2229 254 to Dewsbury arriving at 2256. (A rather one-sided bus schedule!)
